I am planning to buy a new laptop and I think it's the time to switch from windows to mac.

I would use it for simulations (mostly differential equations in 2D using finite difference), application development (C++, java, python), basic image editing (photoshop).

Currently I have a toshiba satellite intel core i5 2.27GHz with 4GB ram (two-years old).
An acceptable time for a simulation with these specs is about 15 to 20 minutes.

I don't have experience with OS X and mac hardware and hence I have no idea if a set of specs in match my needs.

I have already eliminate from my list the new retina mac book pro since my main concern is the performance.
I was thinking to buy the 13" or the 15" mac book pro, but now I am not sure.
