Hi guys,

I have a Macbook Pro 13 Late 2010 and I will buy a SSD tomorrow. I don't know if I go with the new Intel 320 120GB ($233 on Amazon) or with the "old" OCZ Vertex 2 120 ($209 on Amazon).

The Vertex 2 is supposedly faster than the Intel 320, but at the same time, the Intel seems to be more reliable. I don't know what to do.

What do you suggest guys? I heavily use VM Fusion (with Windows 7) and other development stuff on my Mac. I don't care about games for example.

The price is pretty much the same.. so, the price doesn't matter.

Thanks

I would say go with Intel because of reliability, and also OCZ is a real pain to update firmware on macs. I have a vertex 2 180GB, if i knew about all the suffering, I would have paid an extra 100$ to go with something else.

Also, the 320 is a newer drive, so newer technology.. Always go with the newer technology.

Hope this helps..

Cheers!

good

I have a Macbook Pro 13 Late 2010. My Intel 320 fast and no problems. installed a week ago.

I'm using the Vertex 2 (Revision 1.28) in my 2010 13" MBP without any problems so far (TRIM support also works nicely with TRIM enabler). I did actually order the old Intel G2 first as I was unsure about the Vertex 2 after having read about the issues many people had. But since the Intel was nowhere on stock in Switzerland I changed the order to the Vertex 2. Haven't regretted it. :)

Also, a thing to note: The Intel 320 is a new model, there really is no saying as far as reliability and compatibility are concerned. It may be just as good or better than the previous generation, it may be different.

Vertex 2 XBench result is attached.

Thanks for posting the Vertex 2 results! Now if someone could please post the Intel 320 result.. that would help a lot!!

160gb. Boots in maybe 14 sec

I'd go with intel unless you want to gamble with sleep/hibernation issues.

Thanks again for all the benchmarks. I decided to buy the new Intel 320. I might buy a new Macbook Pro 13 in the end of the year and then, finally buy a SATA-3 SSD.

Thanks guys.:)

Are those numbers from a fresh install of OS X or did you clone your old installation? How full was the SSD when you ran Xbench? Just curious since I've got the 300GB Intel 320 and your 4K reads (random and sequential) are ~50% faster than mine. I also have the MacBookPro8,1. I cloned my old installation and my SSD is ~50% full.
