I just changed my Macbook pro 15 (2016) with a Macbook pro 13 (2018). I have two LG ultrafine 5ks. I know that the Macbook pro 13 can support 2 4k monitors. Is there a way for me to connect the LG ultrafine 5ks by lowering the resolution to 4k?

Simultaneously supports full native resolution on the built-in display at millions of colors and:

- One display with 5120-by-2880 resolution at 60Hz at over a billion colors
- Up to two displays with 4096-by-2304 resolution at 60Hz at millions of colors
- Up to two displays with 3840-by-2160 resolution at 60Hz at over a billion colors

I don't have ultrafine 5k so I cannot help you. But I think you can try connecting to one monitor first, then use some 3rd party app to lower the resolution down to 4k (because no matter what resolution you choose in system preferences they are always hardware 5k, mimicking other resolutions), then try to put second on.

I use this topic for my question because it is similar. Just used displays are different.

I would like to buy new MBP 13“ but still not sure if touch bar version or non touchbar. Anyway I would like to connect two external displays to it. (22“ or 24“) Full HD – probably not 4K. Displays should be connected via HDMI or DisplayPort. I want to connect them in extended mode, not mirroring.

I think it should be possible to connect to any MBP no matter if it is touch bar version or non touchbar. If I use two separated dongles/usb-c hubs then I do not expect any problems and it should work, right?

I am planning to buy one usb – c hub. I need Ethernet, at least 2 USB-A, HDMI/DisplayPort, Ethernet and would be fine if the dock would be able to charge the MBP as well. Any recommendation? Thinking about HyperDrive Ultimate Hub. And as addition I would add one more USB-C to HDMI dongle which I would plug into second usb-c port.

Now the tricky part. I am still thinking if am able to connect both displays only via one cable. Meaning that I would have one dock station / usb-c hub which I would plug to MBP and it would just works. Here I am not really sure if it is possible and if there is some proved solution. Any ideas?

Last but not least. I still want to use also internal MBP display so it means I would have 3 displays in total.

Were you able to run two 5Ks in 4K or one in 5K and another in 4K?
