MacBook Pro 13" (2020) - Defective trackpad? (video inside)

I've been using a 2013 MacBook Pro since it was released and I've been using it nearly every day since I bought it so I'm very used to how pinch gestures work.

However, on my new 2020 MacBook Pro (13"), the pinch gestures do not work consistently at all. Maybe I have a defective trackpad? I'm extremely frustrated at the moment...

EDIT: Wait, wait the heck... my 2013 is also acting the same. Can this be a Catalina issue or what am I doing wrong?

Also, my hands are clean and washed so I don't think oil on my fingers are the problem...
