So my MacBook Pro 2017 13" developed bright spots almost 1 year after I bought it, quite a few actually.

When I first bought the Laptop I did notice it had dust and weird something or other splashed on the back of the glass but didn't worry about it too much as once the display was on you couldn't see it. I could only see it under bright light when the screen was off. 1 year in and it started developing bright spots on the backlight. At first it looked like oil on the screen but when I cleaned it it was obvious it was a backlight issue. One bright spot looked like a line but blocky and pixelated if that makes any sense.

Apple Australia swapped the screen no questions asked and in doing so the screen quality is now so much better. It's not resolution, it's just seems to be the quality of the LCD panel. I notice it's brighter and I have to turn it down when I use it at night. Top notch service from Apple in Doncaster Melbourne.

Cheers Apple

My son is having the same issues with his MBP 13” screen. Hopefully US Apple will be as accommodating!

Australia has a consumer law that states retail products need to come with a 2 year warranty. My MacBook was 1 year and 3 months old so technically out of Apple warranty and I had no AppleCare but as I said Apple didn't even bat an eyelid. In fact he said he has seen it before and noted that mine had an unusual amount of spots. It was noted on the invoice thought that it was replaced under consumer law.

Good luck. The new LCD is awesome.

P.S He did run a diagnostic to make sure nothing else was wrong. I mentioned the butterfly key issue (which I have no issue with) and he did state that if a key breaks I can bring it in anytime and have the keyboard replaced. So it seems that can happen way after warranty has ended. If there is a known issue with the screen that may also be the case. I guess with a screen they'd need to keep that sort of info on the down low.
