Hello, I want to upgrade my HDD in my MBP 13" (Mid 2010 model) to a 500GB HDD.

I was going to buy the WD5000BEVT since I have bought many drives sfrom them and not a single one has failed on me (can't say the same for seagate).

However I heard some people are having problems with this drive and a macbook pro, while others say it works great.. whats the deal? Is this a good drive to get or not?

There are always people with issues. Most people, however, are fine with that HD so just go ahead and buy one. If it turns out to be a bad one, just return it

so the problem is with certain drives or are all drives of this model affected? Also what are your thoughts on the Scorpio Black 500GB?

so the problem is with certain drives or are all drives of this model affected? I read on WD's official site that the BEVT models do not have the free fall sensor, only the BPVT models do

The WD Black BEQT drives have free fall, but they only go up to 320 GB. I assume you are looking to put this drive in the primary hard drive bay... right? If so, you do NOT want a free fall sensor drive. A WD BEVT is a great 7200 RPM drive.

yes Im looking to put a new drive in my HDD bay, also BEVT models are scorpio blue 5400rpm drive. The 7200rpm drive is the scorpio black BEKT

Yeah, sorry about that... right. I do not believe there are any Blue models with sms directly imbedded. I wasn't aware the blue came in 7200 though. I run a 5200 500GB as an external backups drive.

I dont beleive the blue comes in 7200rpm. I was looking for a 5400rpm 500GB drive because i heard 7200rpm drives cause more vibration, noise, and power drain from the macbook

I have that HDD in my 13 " MBP and it runs great! not 1 hiccup :)

you have the WD5000BEVT? can you elaborate? is it any faster compared to the stock Hitachi 250GB drive? did you ahve to disable the SMS or run hdapm to fix any issues?
