I have the 17" 2.3 i7 and I couldn't even count how many times I have had to physically turn it off. I would say at least 10-15 times the past month I have owned it. Needless to say, I am not too happy about it.

Never did this. If it does freeze, try closing the lid and let it go to sleep again. Then try waking it.

This has happened to me about 5 to 7 times. I only recently bought my MBP in July and I have had to manually shut off and restart because of the MBP getting stuck at the apple logo or freezing in sleep and not waking up. Gets annoying.

Nope... Although; I want to say it happened one time, but I think something in particular was happening that doesn't normally happen with the device.

Regardless, I can't remember actively needing to restart my laptop for any reason whatsoever.

Let me specify. I don't have to shut it down or anything. It just sometimes pauses for 5-10 seconds when waking from sleep.

Ok this is definitely a itunes issue. It happens every time itunes is running. I just re-installed it so hopefully that will fix it.
Or maybe 10.5 of itunes will fix it.

Hmm weird. A reinstall did not help. I have now turned of wake when a network wants to acces. See if that helps.

This is most likely not the cause of your problem, but if you are writing to the disk when you shut the lid on your Mac it will freeze. If iTunes is writing something (I don't know why it would) it could be giving you a problem.

I just voted no, then read about it happening with iTunes running, tested it and actually yes, it takes slightly longer to wake then there is a very slight pause (not 5-10 seconds for me though more like 1 second) before it will do anything, it's barely noticeable though, perhaps because i'm running lion on an ssd but it definitely happened.

My MBP freezes for like 3-4 seconds when I awake it from sleep. I believe this has something to do with the SSD though, as it hadn't done this with the stock HD.
