Hi All,

I have a Mid 2012 MacBook Pro 13 inch Non Retina (2.9GHZ i7, 16GB of ram and 1TB SSD). I've had a fairly inexpensive Full HD Asus monitor for the last 5 years which has been good but I'm looking for something a bit nicer. I'm interested in one of these:

Does anyone know if my MacBook will actually output anything above 1080P to one of these? I tried with my 55inch 2014 UHD Sony, and couldn't get anything above 1080p out - even with SwitchResX. I'm thinking this could be due to the size of the screen? Was just wondering if anyone has any ideas/info about this :)

The iGPU in this MBP is capable of driving a 2560x1440 (the resolution of the ASUS VX24AH) at 60Hz. I have a 2012 Mac Mini with the same iGPU and have used a 2560x1440 monitor on it for years. The issue is that the ASUS VH24H only has HDMI inputs and the mid-2012 MBP doesn't have HDMI so you would need an active Mini-DisplayPort -> HDMI adapter. I have not used these type of adapters so I can't say personally how well they work. I also wouldn't know how well it would work with the ASUS. If you use a non-active MDP->HDMI adapter, it likely won't work. When I plug in my Amazon Basics (non-active) MDP->HDMI adapter, there is no output to my 2560x1440 monitor, if I plug it in from my mid-2012 MBP to a regular HD TV, it works. So that could be why it doesn't work with your Sony above 1080p (you don't say how you're connecting it).
