MacBook Pro 13" mid 2009- new hard drive not recognized

Just installed a new seagate momentus 500 gb in my MacBook pro. Had the flashing folder with ? And apple said it was a bad hd. So installed the new one and it's not recognized in disk utility so I can format it to install snow leopard. Ran an apple hardware test an it passed. Could the Sata cable be bad? Please help
