Hi need some advice. I am looking at getting the 15" 2.66 macbook pro with snow leopard. However, I read that both GPU can't be utilized together? So is it better to just get the 2.53ghz 15" version? Why would they have 2 GPUs when it can only use one at anytime? I do alot of graphic work and 3d animation too. Any advice?

The benefit of having the 9400M and the 9600M GT is to get the best of both worlds, in terms of power and battery life. With the 9400M active, you get better battery life. The 9600M GT provides the power you need for graphics-intensive programs when you need it, but you will not get as good of battery life compared tot he 9400M.

For anything processor intensive, like what you're doing, you'll be utilizing OpenCL and the 9600GT is a far more capable graphics card to be utilizing. The 9400 is great for general tasks, but 3D modeling seems like it'll require the most processing power possible.

Get the 2.66. You will regret not getting the 9600M GT.

Also, do consider the last gen 2.66 as it is better in particular ways than the current 2.66 is:

512mb VRAM w/ 9600M GT versus 256mb VRAM w/ 9600M GT
6mb L2 cache

Or even 2.4GHz, as it has 512MB VRAM and is only 1349$ from refurb store. 2.66GHz is also great because it can take up to 8GB of DDR3 RAM, even the prev gen

Oh yeah forgot to mention that you get real good deals on last gen stuff :D

Literally half cost.

PS: I did not know that the last gen 2.66 could go up to 8gb of ram... guess apple didn't advertise it :D Glad to know mine is capable of it (although I have no use for that much yet).

The 2.4 doesn't have 512MB of VRAM, it's the 2.53 (last gen) that does. The 2.4 is $1299 and 2.53 is $1449 on Apple's refurb store.

Just bought the 2.66 MBP. Need some advise as to what hardcase to get. Is the Incase hardshell good etc as saw some comments that it causes cracking sound and scratches etc?
