Ive had my MacBook Pro 15" 2017 for 9 month now and have never had an issue with my keyboard, but after reading all the posts and now seeing Apples repair program I feel like i'm waiting for it to break. Is there anyone else that hasn't had any issues with the keyboard? In fact, I had more issues with my 2014 keyboard and had to have it replaced twice.
Is it inevitable that its going to fail eventually? Or is this because I don't eat when using my MacBook?

There's many people who have had no issues at all, and Apple themselves said a small percentage of owners have the problem, so if you've been using it for 9 months you're in good shape, plus apple will fix it thanks to the repair program.

Exactly the same feelings. I am a person who buy sa MacBook Pro maxed but keeps it for 5-6 years. I had a MacBook Pro mid 2010 with the issue with the GPU. The problem never solved. I saw many years passed without serious issues and desided that it's time to buy a new one. I bought a maxed out MBP TB 13 and I was so so so happy with that. I absolutely love the keyboard. I have no issue with my Mac. From day one I have a keyboard silicon protection because I have oily fingers. Since I heard about that issue I feel like having a ticking bomb ready to explode. I stopped enjoying my MacBook. I only think about that.

By the way, is there any way someone having the issue but not every time? For example if after 2-3 years without issue I go to Apple service provider and say that intermittently the key is not working correctly is there any chance that they will indeed change the keyboard? (So new battery in place for me (a) ?)

Keyboard warranty is for 4 year from purchase date, which is good, so mine has lasted me nearly a year, so if I ever do need it replacing, it should last another year with same usage. And hopefully it will be with a revised Gen 2 keyboard.

This is the good scenario. In my old case with the fault graphic chipset until the end they kept putting the same problematic chip.

I've had a late 2016 15" MacBook Pro for almost 2 years that has never had any keyboard issues.

Mine works fine as well. I tested the 2016 vs 2017 and there IS a positive difference. Happy with my 2017. Although I agree I would like it to be more quiet.

Yes, this is the main point of failure for 2016/2017 keyboards. Keeping it clean and using keyboard skins will prolong the life.

Yeah maybe it's because of this. I never eat or drink when using my Mac, I have a silicone protector on keyboard since day 1 (if you exclude sometimes the oily marks on the screen who I'm removing with glass wipe it's perfect) and I don't keep the Mac open when I am not using it. I close the MacBook and put it on a sleeve so not much dirt here

I bought my nearly maxed out 2017 MBP (sans 2TB SSD, only 1TB) about a year ago (the third week of July) and have not ran into any issues with the keyboard. I occasionally eat around the computer (probably about 10 times in the past year) and I don't use a silicone protector (Apple strongly advises against the use of these because it decreases the level of clearance between the screen and the keyboard, which can lead to screen damage).

I mostly use my computer for light photo editing, writing with voice recognition software, research, web surfing, casual video games ... so it rarely ever runs hot. Heat + dust are the most likely candidates for the keyboard issues.

I know that I could have gotten a base configuration model but I wanted to know what it felt like to own a maxed out model plus, my friend unexpectedly pressured me to video edit on my 2010 base 15' which did a number on my old computer... wanna be prepared if another project like that ever comes up again!

OP:

The keyboard is now covered with a 4-year replacement warranty.
I'd just keep using it with the same care that you have been using it for the last 9 months, and not worry about it.

If the keys begin to stick, just get the topcase replaced.
Keep a good current backup around, so you'll be covered if that happens.

I have literally used portables since my dad brought home the original IBM PC Portable in 1984.

To suggest that a laptop requires a keyboard skin for preventing keyboard problems is ludicrous. I just went to the store today to check out the 15" 2017 MBP (to see if I can live with the size). The keyboards on both 2017 models were skipping keys - and no - people do not eat food above these demo machines. Even the employees agreed that the keyboards were f-ed...

I have a2018 on order, but I sincerely hope this is fixed on a 3500 USD laptop...

No issue at all. Maybe after this one of my keysssssssssssssssssssssssssssssss stays stuck. (Really no issues)
