Been thinking about getting my first Macbook.I have been looking at the standard 15" glossy display with i5 @ 2.53ghz.

I have read alot about Macbooks but still cannot decide whether the standard display would be okay or should I go with the hi res one? I currently have a Dell Studio 17 with a 17.3" @ 1600 x900 res display and wouldn't want anything higher

I cannot afford SSD drives,is the 7200 rpm HDD much of an imrpovement over the 5400rpm one?

How quiet are Macbook pros (fan and HDD)? With the Dell the fan is constantly switching on and off

Haven't you thought about it yourself or what: you have a 17" with that resolution and then you say that you wouldn't want anything higher. So why are you even asking about getting a 15" with a higher resolution than your current laptop has? I don't get it.

MacBook Pros are very quiet in normal use.

Buy a normal 5400rpm drive now and get an SSD later. If you really need a HDD upgrade then you should take a Hitachi 7K500.
