Macbook Pro 15 Early 2011 - Firewire 800 size

I recently purchased an external hard drive to use with the firewire 800 port on my MBP. The drive works fine, but is very hard to plug in, I basically have to force it to connect.

I noticed that the female port on the MBP doesn't have a notch at the top like like the male connector. My mid 2010 Mac Pro does have said notch and the drive plugs in very easily in it.
