I have a new battery with only 28 cycles on. It's charges to 100% fine. Then when I switch off the MagSafe at the wall 1-2 seconds later it powers off the computer. If press the power button still with the MagSafe off, it'll boot into mavericks as normal, once it gets to the desktop the display dims as normal and it shut off again

If I power it up on battery power alone and press the option key it'll sit happily without powering itself off. It only powers itself off when it loads into the desktop, this seems to be something in the operating system causing it.

Any ideas as to what could be causing this?

Happy New Year!

*edit*

Interestingly, (with the magsafe switched off) if i press and hold left Shift/option/cmd and power, the light on the front blinks fast, then it chimes and boots into the os, then i can use it on battery power without it shutting down? Hmmm
