Hello.

Recently I bought a second hand macbook pro (macbookpro5,4). It came with its original 250GB SATA hdd. Then I bought a new WD Scorpio Blue 1TB SATA 2. I had to downgrade macbook's firmware to 1.6 since the 1.7 upgrade made the SATA2 completely useless. I successfully installed OS X 10.8 and it all worked well for a week, until yesterday, when after I opened the lid, clicked just one button and it froze. I've put my os x installation flash drive, and when I opened the disc utility, the hdd wasn't there anymore. So I swapped to the original SATA hdd and it all worked perfectly well (I'm actually using it now). Then I decided to try with my old Acer's SATA2 hdd, and the disc utility didn't detect it either. When I've put the 1TB SATA2 to the acer, the boot menu had detected it (of course couldn't boot it).

To me it seems the hard drives are all perfectly fine, but my mac suddenly doesn't want to detect SATA 2 drives, although it previously did, but still detects SATA 1 drives.

Any idea what could be wrong ?
