I recently sold my much loved Imac 27, in favor of a MacBook 16 base paired with a Dell 3818 that arrived yesterday.

I have connected the monitor via thunderbolt and for the most part seems to be working fine. (Some screen flickering at the start)

I have a pair of JBL305 speakers I use, on the iMac I had a XLR splitter to headphone jack, which worked great.

Coming directly out the MacBook I get audio and control. If I come out the back of the Dell, I get some audio but no control.

I am using a Logitech 370 keyboard and mx2s mouse. I would prefer to come out the back of the Dell ,as my cable is too short to position the MacBook where I want it.

is there a setting I am missing, or some software that’s Mac compatible? I haven’t yet figured out how to update the monitor software.

I haven’t yet figured out it all out, otherwise I can go have a longer cable made and use the headphone jack out the MacBook.

appreciate any help

many thanks

I've not seen a Dell monitor that allowed audio control for Mac OS. I've had 3 of them in last 6 years and just run the cable from my mbp. They are great monitors, nut just not designed for Macs.

Thank you DFWHD,

after playing around with everything , seems so,just wanted to make sure in my limited knowledge.

will go grab a female to male stereo headphone jack extension instead. Or look at DAC as an option. They just hard to find here.
Appreciate the input 😎

I have the same issue with hdmi/dysplay port audio output on Mac mini (I think the issue as same as yours). Can control sound level via monitor built-in settings only. It would be great if somebody knows a way to configure Mac to control sound level via keyboard keys :)

much appreciated, now it actually works perfectly. can set the volume controls back to keyboard and my MX mouse.

this is now plugging the 3.5mm - 2 x XLR splitter cable directly from Dell.

I am picking up an earthing issue / low level buzz however, when plugged directly into Mac this is gone and silent, if I plug into Dell directly and or use a 3.5 female. to 3.5 male extension to get the splitter to reach the Mac, I also get the feedback noise.

only time it is silent is directly out of the Mac...This is more than likely a cable issue I suspect ?
