Hey guys!

I need to get myself a new laptop and looking at the 16” MacBook Pro base model (2399)

Is this thing powerful enough to handle photoshop/illustrator and all of these kinds of programs without freezing up overheating like the 13” has on me?

many reviews as well would be great. I had the butterfly keys that were on the 13” I have. Absolutely horrible

The 16" is powerful enough to do this. It will rarely overheat (and if so, it's "just" the VRMs), but it will run hot like every other MacBook Pro with dGPU.

You might want to wait a few months if you can, to see whether Apple releases a 16" MBP with Apple Silicon SoC.

Otherwise, the 16" should suit your needs. And if not. If you buy from Apple directly (or most other reputable sellers) you can return the machine during the first 1-2 weeks if the laptops doesn't fit your demands.

Thank you!

I don’t really want to wait as I need a laptop for some design work sadly! But that answers my questions! I appreciate it

Should work, but it can be pretty noisy when the fans spin up. Unfortunately, the Intel is the only 16" option right now.

Yeah I would love one with m1 chip but who knows when that will happen and I need a laptop :(

Perhaps a used 16". Plenty of people are dumping them into the used market. I sold mine a few months ago after I got my M1 Air.

I want a new one just for the warranty and to get Apple care. Plus don’t have all the money to put down at the moment at once

Yes, but if you can wait 6 months or so you really should since the new models are amazing and won't be lose support from Apple in 2 years.

There pretty much has never been a better time to wait a bit in the last 10+ years of computer releases. Maybe ever.

Sadly I can’t. I need it for my side business I run cause I gotta do design work and stuff on it.

Sounds like a better option just now would be to buy an M1 MacBook Air or Pro if you absolutely need to buy a laptop now and it needs to be a new one?

As others have said, I wouldn't spend money on a new intel-based Mac unless you have programmes which won't run on the M1 chip - those tend to be pretty specialist and few and far between.

The new M1 machines are very powerful and energy efficient.
