Macbook Pro 16' base model vs 1TB - any difference?

Hello guys,

Sorry for the stupid question, but is there any difference between configuring the base 16' model with 1TB SSD and the "middle model" with the default 1 TB SSD? I ask because Apple seems to differentiate those (different model code) and even shipping times are different (1-2 weeks for configured base model and 2-3 for the preconfigured).

Thanks for your feedback!

If you are concerned only about the shipping estimates, it is only about what may be in stock and can be made available sooner versus what might not be in stock and will take longer to arrive. BTO/ CTO configurations often arrive later.

With regards to material difference, it is zero. 1 TB coming in 1 week will be same as 1 TB in 2 weeks.

Thank you, that's what I thought, but it doesn't make sense - why Apple is separating two models if they are exactly same thing (Base with upgraded SSD and middle without additional upgrading)? As you can see - even on the order (in the basked) those are two different devices. Despite having exact same specs?

Apple often does this. For example, the M1 Mac mini has a 256GB version and a 512GB version. But you can also just upgrade the 256GB to 512GB build-to-order. It’s the same computer.

So why do they do this? I suppose most people buy the standard models so they have more stock, etc. The Mac Pro has only one model because those who buy it will probably build-to-order everything anyway.

So, to sum it up: I don't loose any specs when just upgrading the base model with 1TB SSD, rather thank choosing the 'higher' option with the default 1TB storage? I'm asking because I ordered by mistake this "built to order".

You are not missing out on anything at all.
