Hi, I have a base config Macbook Pro 16 and I've just connected it with an HDMI cable and Apple adapter to a 27-inch 2560 x 1440 (non 5k) monitor and the fans kick in after about a minute and they are running quite loud even in idle. Also, the area above the touch bar is noticeably hot. So it feels like I'm pushing the thermals even though there is no load happening. Tried running in clamshell mode, plugging to different ports with no difference. By itself this Macbook is quite cool and silent even when opening 100+ Safari tabs and many apps.
My late 2013 rMBP 15 drives the same display without extra fan noise. As I understand, the new Macbook enables the dGPU whenever it is connected to an external monitor.
Can anyone confirm this behaviour with their Macbooks 16 when plugged to an external monitor? Could the problem be in the HDMI cable and using the USB cable it will run cooler and quieter?
