MacBook Pro 16" popping/crackling speaker

Hi all.

I'm playing Cities Skylines on my 16" MBP as we speak and every-now-and-then the speakers emit a popping/crackling sound.

I know there were some issues with popping/crackling speakers when the 16" MBP was first released but I read that these issues had been resolved by a software update. I am running Big Sur 11.2.3 and there are no updates available.

Does anyone know what could be causing the issue and how to fix it? I don't think I've heard it crackle in anything other than Cities Skylines.

Still getting it on Big Sur 11.3.1, after updating it. Apparently the issue has to do with the encoding (I think, can't remember the term) of the audio, the last time they "fixed" it, they just switched the encoding and didn't fix the underlying issue.
