I recently removed a keycap incorrectly and the keycap just sits flat on the switch mechanism. I verified that the switch mechanism isn't broken by removing another keycap on the keyboard and put it in on the switch mechanism.
I can't seem to find a place to buy replacement keycaps for the Macbook Pro 16in. I've contacted Apple regarding just shipping out a replacement, but lo and behold I have to ship my whole laptop to get a keycap replaced. There are no official Apple stores near me, so I can't just get it quickly replaced at the Genius bar.
