I have a 17" MacBook Pro notebook which is difficult to boot. Most often, when the power button is pressed, the front indicator will pulse on and the boot sequence begins. Then a couple of seconds or possibly most of the way through the boot sequence (while the white boot screen is still displayed) the unit dies entirely! This began occurring the day after our local apple store installed a new battery. The problem did not exist before that time. I knew the battery was aging and decided to replace it. I took it back to the store and described the situation. The store saw that it would not boot and instantly decided that the logic board would have to be replaced. I later booted it at home and ran the hardware diagnostics on the original CD. No hardware issues were found. I am not happy with a glib diagnosis and am hoping that this forum can help me. BTW- it will boot from the CD and in Diagnostic mode. So far, I have tried the left-side Shift+Control+Options button combo with the power button along with a few other similar techniques. I believe the OS is up to date but could a firmware issue have occurred with the introduction of the new battery? I have not tried simply reinstalling the OS, since I cannot rule out a hardware/firmware issue.

Please help. This is my wife's laptop and she needs it for her work!
