Macbook pro 17" late 2009 USB issue (in XP)

I have just come across an issue with my 17" Macbook pro when running XP. On trying to install an xbox 360 wireless receiver in XP the controller would not connect. The drivers went on ok and the receiver was showing a green led on the front (indicating it was on). The strange thing is, it works if it is plugged into the 3rd USB port but not the first two!

Any ideas?

plug it in and see what it says in the USB device manager in XP. it may not be recognizing it properly even tho the drivers installed ok.

if that doesnt work see what it says under os x.
