Hi,

I've got a MacBook Pro17 Mid-2010 not turning on. Doesn't action the CD drive nor does it make the startup chime. It stated doing this yesterday.

Reset the SMC and tried powering on by holding the power button and D, also Option-D. But nothing.

I took the cover off and disconnected the drive and memory then got a low tone on start up. Reconnected the drive and memory and then it started working. It was fine all day.

Then this morning it refused to power on again. I took the cover off and removed the RAM and put it back in and since then it has been fine. It has the original 2x2GB. Otherwise the MacBook is fine, if sometimes a little overwhelmed.

I've got some new RAM on order from Amazon (2x4GB) - so hoping it is the memory, but if it was I'd expect random crashes and freezes.

Is there anything else I can do to isolate the problem?

Thanks,
Al

So I fitted the new RAM and no problems in the past week and a bit - so I assume it was an issue with RAM.

i just got back my logic board for my pro17 early 2009 , i sent it to get fixed , mine would shut off at boot all the time . i sent it to powerbook medic and it cost 249$ now it runs like a charm , it has new battery , keyboard , speakers and two ssd hard drives

Wow you can fit in two drives? Maybe mine has more battery. I'll have to have another look. It's been running flawlessly again and going from 4GB to 8GB really helps these days.
