My late 2007 MacBook Pro is stuck in sleep mode when I start up, and can't get anywhere in terms of a fix. Tried SMC reset, and an NVRAM reset too, but to no avail. The optical drive spins up and the sleep indicator is stuck on (although did flash when trying the SMC reset). Any ideas? Inclined to rip out the hard drive to save my data and get a Mac Mini as a long needed upgrade, but would prefer to fix the MacBook beforehand ideally. Out of interest, is there a lot to be gained by getting the more expensive Mac Mini over the cheaper model? Apart from the i7 over the i5, and the bigger hard drive (would get a cheap, high capacity network drive instead), would it be better to get the cheaper model?
