MBP 1,1-10,2 Macbook Pro 2010 external display max resolution weirdness

Hi all,

I have a 2010 17 inch MBP which is unable to detect properly external displays.
I have two seperate situations:

1. Display modes above 2048x1080 not detected ( ex. 27 inch lenovo display with 2560x1080 )
2. 27 inch iMAc 2009 not recognised in target display mode after plugging in cable ( I have a 17 MBP from 2009 wich works fine with this iMac in TDM )

Has anyone had similar problems?

Hi all,

This evening I did some more tests with two different displays:

1. ACER 23 inch 1920x1080 ( DVI )
2. Phillips 15 inch LCD TV ( VGA )

Using the same mini displayport adapter ( which has both hdmi and vga outputs ) I
was able to use the ACER at full resolution while the Phillips was apparently detected ( black screen
when pugging in adapter ) but the display was not detected at all.

PS. I also tested with a mini dp to vga only adapter and the result for the Phillips was the same.

Any ideas?
