Hi,
My MacBook Pro 15" 2010 hard drive recently broke down. It got stuck at start-up with the loading bar beneath the Apple logo, and the loading circle taking forever. I tried repairing the disk using the Lion Disk Utility, to no avail. Also tried backing up to an external HD, but that was not possible due to an "input/output error". Hence, I concluded that the HD was done and took it to a repair shop, asking them to change the HD.
They replaced the original Toshiba 320GB drive with a 500GB Hitachi drive. As far as I have researched, this disk should be compatible with my MBP. It is a 2.5" SATA drive ( model is Travel Star 5K750, HTS547550A9E384.)
The guy who repaired it wa supposed to re-install the OS (Lion), but according to him, during installation the computer ran out of battery and he did not have a charger (I know). Anyway, when I picked it up he told me this and I decided to take it home and install Lion myself, since I have done it before in several MBs.
When I plugged in the thumb drive and select the MAC OS boot (optn) , instead of going into the Lion Menu, it goes straight into the alternating Apple logo/question mark folder/no symbol. I tried this several times.
I tried Internet Recovery and this way it does start the Lion Menu, and I formatted the drive as Mac OS Extended Journaled. I verified the disk and it appears to be OK. But when I go back into the installer, it begins to check and prepare and brings up an error, please try running this applicarion again.
I also tried running the Old Snow Leopard Installation Disk and this one gets stuck at a static Apple logo forever after reading the disc.
I am wondering if anyone can give me any ideas as to what I might be doing wrong: is it the wrong hard drive, am I doin something wrong during the installation, might other parta be broken, etc?
The computer was working fine until the hard drive came about with this problem.
Thanks a lot for your help,
Carmen
