I have a Mid 2010 13" Macbook Pro and the keyboard backlight has not only stopped working but it the settings have completely disappeared. Also, when I press F5 and F6 to adjust the backlight nothing comes up on the screen. Its almost like my Macbook doesn't think it has a backlit keyboard. This seemed to have happened soon after I updated to OS X Lion not too long ago via the Mac App Store. Please help. Here's a screen shot for you.

Same thing happened to my 2007 MacBook Pro after I ran software update a few days ago. I have no idea why!

Same problem...

I have the same Problem with my Early 2011 MBP 13''. After I ran an update, the backlight settings are gone and I can't activate the backlight with the hardware buttons.
With LabTick, the keyboard backlight works fine so I can eliminate a hardware error. Does anyone have a sollution for this one?

Maybe not the solution you are looking for, but have you tried the backlight keys on the top row (F5 and F6 on my keyboard)?
