So I just replaced the battery in my 2011 15" Macbook Pro because the old one was acting up from time to time and the system preferences gave the information "service battery".
I ordered one on Amazon and the swap was no problem.

But now I am trying to calibrate the battery according to the instructions on iFixit (https://www.ifixit.com/Guide/MacBook+Pro+15-Inch+Unibody+Early+2011+Battery+Replacement/5889) and, after I plug in the magsafe, the sleep light indicator is lighting up.
I can also hear the fans going from time to time and the bottom of the machine is so hot you could fry eggs on it.
But when I open the lid, the screen doesn't turn on and when I press the power button nothing happens either.
It's been plugged in now for half an hour and nothing yet. I am getting worried ...

Is this normal?
Why is the sleep light indicator on?
Can you guys help me out here?

How long does it take until my Macbook comes to life again?

After I push the battery indicator on the side it now says that the battery is half full.
But when I push the power-button absolutely nothing happens.
Is this normal? I'd really be thankful for some advice here.

no, this does not sound normal. Have you held down the power button down for > 4/5s to force a power off to check if it's stuck in some weird state?

Thank you for your reply!
After about an hour I managed to turn it on and it then showed the new battery 68% charged and with 7000 mAh max capacity, which seems good.
I immediately switched it off as not to interrupt the battery calibration process. Now the sleep indicator is off and it is cool. It's still charging though, with one led on the battery indicator left to charge.
