Hi,

New MBP 2011 17" died after 1 week of heavy usage. Computer froze.

Hard reset lead to grey screen of death.

No apple, no spinning disc, only a chime. Couldn't resent the PRAM, couldn't load the installation disc by holding C (the disc is stuck in there now and won't eject).

Rang Apple Customer Care, she tried to trouble shoot it. All CMD+V, CMD+S did not work.

The SSD is my own.

NOW.....

My suspicion is that the heat I generated with prolonged 90+ C usage lead to this failure. This has me concerned for my replacement. Had anyone else had motherboard and video card failures on MBP 2011 models?

Also, my friend has the same model as me, and his started to do this at random times..

.

I told him to insist on a replacement too (even though his is a month old).

I really think the quad core is an awesome chip, that's been shoe-horned too tightly. So random bad luck or a sign of things to come for people who stress their machine?

Unless your computer reaches 115C then you are all good on that front.

I'd say you got a lemon. I got my 2.2 i7 MBP the day they came out (when I exchanged my 2 week old 2010 MBP) and it's been going strong ever since.

You should replace the one you have for a new one.

most likely. Just take it back and you can get it replaced. Be sure to take out your SSD first.

Thank you Icy1007, Macsavvytech, YsoSerious.:) I took it back to the Mac store, showed them it wouldn't boot, they ordered a new one CTO. Girl was apologetic as this will be MBP number 3.

I will update on my friends AMD video card issues, incase someone searches the forum with similar problems.
