Hello all, im having a problem with my machine.

My machine for a while was running very hot whilst working (im a Music Producer) and I finally got round to changing the Thermal Paste to help cool it down as I suspected the machine had never had it changed since purchase (I bought this used), whilst the machine was hot it always functioned really well when not under any sort of strenuous load.

I stripped the machine and changed the paste, I also cleared the fans of dust bunnys that almost covered the vents and were quite thick, no issues, upon booting after reassembling my display has gone completely white, thankfully I have a thunderbolt Display which is how I use it 99% of the time so I was able to try some software troubleshooting to try and clear the white screen, sadly nothing has worked and its my guess that there is some kind of problem with the GPU, I arranged with my local electronics repair to have it reflowed in a few days to hopefully remedy the problem whilst I work in the meantime using my external display.

The problems I have since encountered however are hurting my ability to work;

1. The laptop will randomly slow down for a period of time & my pointer become staggered as it moves across the screen yet the CPU is relatively cool with the fans ramping up, though not as loud as before thankfully

2. Browsing fles and folders has slowed down quite a bit

3. Playing video back on YouTube will randomly become glitchy & jumpy, I checked my internet via a ping test and it was getting a good speed

Can anyone help diagnose the problems im having?

Thank you

does it have an ssd? and can you run a disk speed test?

these symptoms sound like you damaged the cable going to the hdd/ssd, I have a mid-2012 13" and it did the same thing a year ago.

the good thing is that if it is that, the cable is like $10 and if you know what you're doing you can replace it in 20 minutes. it's not difficult at all.
