I have a MacBook Pro 13” from 2012 and cosmetically it’s in really great condition. The unit has exhausted the OEM battery and now the replacement 3rd party battery has gone bad as well - not a huge deal, still works plugged in, and replacements are inexpensive.

however, just ordered a new MacBook Pro, so any suggestions on what should I do with this one? Repurpose, replace battery, use plugged in, just sell it? it’s a lovely little machine, just know it probably will collect dust soon.

I don't think you will get much money out of selling it, you can just keep it and store it. If you do store it, get rid of the battery since it could swell up. Or unplug the battery if not being used for a long time. You can always buy a battery from a reputable seller that has a warranty on it.

If your local craigslist has Cash for Computer offers, call some up and get a quote. Then decide whether to sell it to them or try selling it yourself with another new battery. It’s a buyer’s market so I would lean on the former option.

edit: also you might keep it as a backup for the first few months after your upgrade, in case the new machine needs service

thanks for your feedback and good suggestion about removing the old one so doesn’t cause damage.

With school at home for many families they may be looking for inexpensive machine, so might be a great way to help someone out! Maybe I’ll get a battery and then sell it. I still have a 2018 Mac mini as my current backup so that’s actually what I’m using while MacBook on back order.

This may sound like sacrilege to some but if the school uses chromebook software, there is a chromebook OS version for the mac.

Is that a 2.5ghz i5 or a 2.9ghz i7?
