Hey,

There seems to be a hard drive problem, freezing at times, sometimes when I pick up the computer, sometimes after opening it up after sleep. I ran disk utility (First Aid)

Verifying file system.
Volume could not be unmounted.
Using live mode.
Performing fsck_apfs -n -l -x /dev/rdisk1s1
Checking the container superblock.
Checking the EFI jumpstart record.
Checking the space manager.
Checking the space manager free queue trees.
Checking the object map.
Checking volume.
Checking the APFS volume superblock.
The volume Mac SSD was formatted by hfs_convert (945.230.6) and last modified by apfs_kext (945.241.4).
Checking the object map.
Checking the snapshot metadata tree.
Checking the snapshot metadata.
Checking the extent ref tree.
Checking the fsroot tree.
Verifying allocated space.
Performing deferred repairs.
The volume /dev/rdisk1s1 appears to be OK.
File system check exit code is 0.
Restoring the original state found as mounted.

I am not sure if my hard drive is going down the drain? Samsung SSD

Thanks,
Bob

Try doing a diagnostic scan on your Mac (Hold D when booting) to help you pinpoint the specific problem. Here is a related link to assist you:

Good luck!

Not your SSD. It’s the SATA cable. Common point of failure on your model. Apple had a silent repair program for the 2012 13” at one point — no longer, unfortunately.

Replace the SATA cable and it’ll be good as new. Very easy to fit as well.
