Hey guys,

So here's the issue I'm experiencing.
I'm working on a mid 2012 Macbook Pro 15" model, that wouldn't boot at all.
When plugged in, the hard drive would attempt to, but fail to spin up.
I attempted to reset the PRAM, and SMC, but it still failed. Until I tried a weird sequence of steps.

I finally got it to boot by pressing shift+control+option + power button, then releasing all but the power button and closing the lid of the macbook until it began to boot.

I have no clue why this would work, but I got it to start up.

Upon initial boot, I saw multiple updates, one of which was a firmware update for this model, stating to fix issues with failure to boot, and other SMC issues. I went ahead and installed the update, and now the computer won't boot past the Apple logo with a spinning wheel.

If i unplug the system, i have to use the strange boot method again (I think the battery might not be recognized) Also, the fans have been running full speed the entire time.

Any advice to get this computer to boot/ any action I should take?

Thanks,

AJ

So I have attempted to run a hardware test on it,
and it continues to fail at 11% of testing the memory.

I switched the RAM out, and tried both sockets with different modules and it still fails (although at 7% with only one module)

Is this a failing logic board?

Thanks,

AJ
