A few months ago I purchased the baseline 13" MBP. It comes with the default 1 year apple warranty. If I swap the HD for a different one, does that void my warranty?

No - I do recommend keeping the HD. If you need to take it into service I would swap it out. One - you dont want them to have your info. Two - there have been cases they have replaced users HD with an their HD (you lose your HD). But it does not void warranty. I just dropped off my MacBook Pro fo repairs and switch my HD out right in front of the genius. :)
