A few months ago I purchased the baseline 13" MBP. It comes with the default 1 year apple warranty. If I swap the HD for a different one, does that void my warranty?

No - I do recommend keeping the HD. If you need to take it into service I would swap it out. One - you dont want them to have your info. Two - there have been cases they have replaced users HD with an their HD (you lose your HD). But it does not void warranty. I just dropped off my MacBook Pro fo repairs and switch my HD out right in front of the genius.

No, it doesn't void your warranty, unless you damage something in the process.
