Greets - I have a late 2013/Early 2014 Macbook Pro (and it's probably my best friend). It's been having this odd problem lately:

Under heavy or light usage, screen goes black (computer stays on, keyboard lit). Fan spins up, spins loudly for about 7-20 seconds, then computer turns off. I sigh, and hit the power button. Computer boots up - first with the apple logo and a progress bar that loads, then to the normal screen where I enter my password.

I was hoping this would be a byproduct of an old battery, and gave it to the techs to install a new top case. Told them about the problem, they told me maybe a battery issue, and maybe an issue with the OS, so they wiped it. Didn't fix the problem, they wiped it again, and said they can't find anything with it that would cause this.

I'm hoping this can be fixed...for many obvious reasons, the least being I don't need a touch bar - and another least reason, I love that my Mac doesn't have "Macbook Pro" printed at the bottom of the screen that always faces me.

Any help would be very much enjoyed.

I'd try to hold out until the new 14" MacBook Pro is released (probably July/August), and then take a really good look at it...

I don't have any experience with that problem but you can at least read this page to see if it sounds viable:

I'm so happy I was forwarded to this other thread - thank you!

My question: after disabling the csrutil, do I still need to deal with the AppleThunderbolt kext, or has that been dealt with by disabling the csrutil? I tried to move the extension to another folder, or delete it, but am unable.

I believe the point of disabling system integrity protection (csrutil) is so that you can delete the kext.

Which version of macOS are you running?
