I am in the market for a new workstation and I thought about something.
  • Originally looking at 27 5k i5 Mac (w/ssd) vs Mini/Pro (refurbished) with 34” Widescreen
  • Random thought, late 2013 MacBook Pro 15 i7 as a workstation solely. One with cosmetic damage or a screen issue (no water damage obviously) which run around eBay for $500 to 800
  • With 34" monitor would probably be $600-$800 cheaper on average than the iMac (preferred budget around $2k).
How does Geekbench translate to Real World Performance?
  • 13 i7 MacBook, the Geekbench 64 single is 3700 and multicore 14596.
  • i5 27 5k Geekbench single is 4731 and MC is 13816.
Outside of Video Editing how much different would most daily tasks on the Macbook Pro would be (ex: heavy web browsing, web design, light photo editing, VM, Pages, larger spreadsheets, etc.)?

Any other major drawbacks? (**Edited to make it less wordy :) )
