Hello All,

Earlier today I opened my MacBook Pro 15'' 2015 for the usual dusting. I do it every 6 months or so, to keep the internals as clean as possible. This time, however, after I had thoroughly removed all traces of dust, using compressed air and isopropyl alcohol 91%, for the backplate, I noticed that the following component, which looks to be part of the MagSafe connector, was partially covered by a strange white substance.

I was able to remove/pill most of it off by gently rubbing it with a plastic spudger from the iFixit tool kit. Then, with a tiny piece of lint-free cloth, damped with a bit of alcohol, I was able to clean it. So now, it looks like this:

The computer is in excellent shape, with only one visit to the Apple Store for a battery replacement during last summer. There has been no spill nor any other contact with liquids.

I am not sure how the component looked like right after I got the computer from the Apple store, as this is the first time opening it after the battery replacement. However, I am 100% sure the component did not look like this before the visit.

So, I now wonder what the heck was that substance and whether it will affect the laptop, in the long run, even though, I have not noticed any issues with the laptop, yet.

Thanks,
Stavros
