MacBook Pro 2015 with UWQHD monitor

Hi, my son has been using an early 2015 MacBook Pro running W10 under bootcamp for school, and is keen to keep it for college- can it run an UWQHD monitor? If so, can it run over hdmi, or do I need to use thunderbolt?
