I have a Macbook Pro 2016 touch bar (base model). This is an ongoing issue that I have encountered and I was wondering if anyone has found a resolution to this (googling around does not appear to produce any relevant results).

I have login issues with my MacBook whenever I wake it up from sleep mode after it has been in sleep mode for at least 8 hours. This is an issue that I encounter every single morning because I put my MacBook to sleep at night. Upon waking the laptop, I am greeted with the usual login prompt. However, TouchID, keyboard, and mouse all do not function. I have tried leaving the laptop on for up to 1 hr to see if those functionalities are activated, but they still will not work. My only resolution is to hold the power button to restart the laptop every single time.

Obviously it would be pretty inconvenient to have to force a restart every single morning with a computer designed for continuous cycles of sleep/wake (I have never had this issue with prior MacBook Pro or MacBook Air models), let alone worry every night about saving progress from open apps. So, I made an appointment at the Genius Bar to see if Apple could possible provide me with a replacement as a last resort (it's still under warranty). I have tried both NVRAM and SMC resets at this point to no avail. I was met with abhorrent service from the assistant. He condescendingly informed me that I have to change my behavior around this issue because he didn't detect any hardware issues, and that I need to just shut down my laptop every night. How is this a reasonable fix for a piece of hardware designed with a sleep mode to be used for convenience?

At this point I'm pretty fed up with Apple. I was instructed by AppleCare phone support that this issue would be handled easily in-store, and end up wasting about 3 hours traveling/waiting/calling AppleCare for an issue I encounter every morning. Any help would be appreciated.

Certainly doesn’t sound like a hardware problem since it works after a restart. AppleCare should have guided you to try those steps (though unlikely to change anything IMO) and some more software troubleshooting (assuming you didn’t just ask for an appointment). You don’t state what troubleshooting you’ve done beyond waiting.

I would start with basic isolation steps:

Try making a new user on the computer, log out of your account and into the new account, then test it. If the issue reoccurs, it’s system-wide, and I’d suggest booting into Safe Mode and testing again, then reinstalling macOS if still not resolved. If it doesn’t occur in the new user, then it means there’s an issue within your user account.
