Hi everyone I have a question about my brand new macbook pro 2017(The NON touch bar version) the last time I used the macbook was 6 days ago..it was about 84 percent charged..I go to the apple on the left hand side and go to shut down..so today I flipped the monitor on the macbook and I see that the macbook is now 66 percent charged(I turned it on since I wanted to download the new mac os sierra update) is that normal..I know that macbooks do drain battery life but wanted to be sure if that is normal and yes its brand new I got it before christmas so just wanted to make sure this was normal..I mean I figured if you turn off a laptop and its 84 percent charged..when you turn it back on doesnt matter how long its been off that it will be the same battery life but Im new at this maybe that is not the case

No electronic device does that. They all lose battery while off or asleep. its normal.

Every battery has a certain self-discharge rate. If you leave a battery unplugged for a few months it'll drain completely due to the chemical processes inside its cells. In addition, turning your MBP off doesn't really mean it's completely off. Some components are still supplied with power regardless. Which explains why your battery drained from 84% to 66% in about a week. Nothing to worry about, seems normal to me.

The percentage drop seems a little large for me. But since it is new the battery percentage calculation algorithm may still be learning.

Also, make sure you select the shutdown option to fully power off the system. Just closing the lid leaves the system in standby mode where it needs power to keep the contents of memory intact so you can resume right were you left off.

OK thank you so much for letting me know. Im new to this whole thing so just thought maybe it was kind of fast for it to drain but if its normal than that is just the way it is. And I do shut it down completely..I go to the apple icon on the top left and go to shut down and I dont close the lid til I see the keyboard is no longer lighted up and the screen is completely black..I also checked the battery status and it shows everything is normal maybe the battery indicator showing it as 66 percent isn't even accurate and its more than that?
