Yeah, it does sound like the fan is rubbing against something or the fan is failing. You should be able to change that out yourself.
Go to www.ifixit.com and look at the procedure. I believe they also sell the proper tools you'll need and the fan itself. Or you can always buy a new fan on eBay.
