Just my take always after using this machine for a few days now. Coming from windows as well back to Mac!

-It’s very very fast. Even with the i5 and 8gb of ram. Apps open quick, switch fast, and haven’t noticed any slow downs. I was even able to edit a video in Final Cut Pro in 4K. Little slow here but understandable and workable.

-It gets hot!! The one fan is really quiet and goes on during intense work, but I’m not sure if it’s doing much. Does anyone with the dual fan 2.4 i5 or higher i7 have much heat? I thought this would be cooler as it is 15w as opposed to 28w. And any way to keep it cooler via cooling pad or that vent attachment thing I see online?

-The display is amazing! In the dark, during the day, regular light etc. However, my eyes aren’t great and the words are pretty tiny on the 13 inch. I wanted to make everything bigger but that lowers the awesome resolution. Any suggestions here? Does the 15 in general easier to see as it’s bigger or does it scale the same? Sorry if that is a duh question I really don’t know.

-The battery life could be better I feel. It doesn’t get near 10 hours. Around 6 for me which is still good! I like having brightness up so this is why my battery goes quicker.

-I have not noticed any throttling! And I’ve been trying just to see. Researching MacBooks this was common issue which looks like it was fixed.

-You May not need 16gb of Ram. Blasphemy I know! But the 8gb model handles everything I throw at it really well so far. Final cut, logic, excel, optimizer programs, chrome etc.

Any feedback is appreciated

Not sure what sort of feedback you're looking for specifically, but I would have to agree with your statements. I always used to purchase 15 inch MacBook pros because of the power (normally significantly better than the 13 inch models) and in comparison to the the new models, this is still true BUT the new processors in the 13 inch models are substantially better than previous 13 inch models.

I recently purchased a 2018 MBP 13 inch at a discount, and it's got just as much under the hood (actually a bit more) than my 2013 15 inch model. Started getting a little annoying lugging around a large laptop especially when I just plug into a home office setup when I'm at home. Happy with the purchase and glad to hear that you're happy with yours.

You Could use switchres to open programs like Pages etc or other programs to open in a lower res to allow to read easier without having to lower the native resolution.

I've had the 1.4/16/512 for just under a week and used quite extensively for my usual tasks. I am really pleased with this machine. I hope we will be rid of any keyboard problems. My last MacBook Pro was from 2008 so I am coming from a long way.

I agree the computer gets very hot under load or while doing certain things like previewing lots of RAW photos in the finder. It even gets hot on the keyboard and palm rests sometimes which was a surprise and can be uncomfortable.

I´m wondering if others also feel the same way about the hot keyboard and palm rests?

Besides that it seems to be a very nice and capable machine for the price, with a good screen, enough horsepower for anything you throw at it within reason and is easily portable due to the small footprint. Maybe a thermal pad on the heatsink could lower the temperature but that will transfer the heat to the bottom of the computer which also gets very hot. Truth is until they come out with lower power consuming chips these laptops will continue to get hot under load. One thing I miss is the magsafe but there are magnetic adapters one can buy. Over all I´m happy with it so far.

How do you find the keyboard?

Same thoughts as you, it does occasionally get a bit hot during use.

I almost feel like it could do with a better fan curve as the fans really don't do much until its already hot then takes a while to cool down once the fans have kicked in.

Other than that I cant fault it much at all so far.

Someone did put thermal pads on the heat sink and said it kept it cool enough to not transfer heat. Something I might consider doing in the future.

The heat and mediocre battery life are definite bummers, but it is a solid machine for sure. Probably the best entry level notebook of any sort Apple has released in years.

If you are changing the display scaling settings Mac OS actually does not change the resolution. Resolution stays the same. Just the scaling changes.

Thanks this answered my question!

I’d like to be talented enough to do that as well lol but I am not.

I may actually exchange it for the mid 2019 2.4 mode as it still gets pretty hot. I couldn’t even keep it on my lap.

That 2.4 model has 2 fans so it should run cooler.

I actually really really like the keyboard! I typed a ton on it so far and no issues at all!
