Hello there.

Today I was editing a video in Final Cut Pro on my MBP 2019.

Suddenly my laptop fans became very loud and the audio started skipping and repeating segments.

I force quit Final Cut Pro and restarted my laptop.

Once it booted back up, it had lost Dark Mode, my Dock had been reset to default icons and position, and my Desktop had lost all preferences, so text size and icon size had all reverted to default.

What could have caused this?
Is there anything I can do to stop this occurring again?

Thanks for your help.

Just to update, I updated MacOS to the most recent (despite already being on Catalina), and I haven’t experienced this again.

I guess it was just having a moment.
If you experience this, I suggest doing the usual things like clearing the PRAM and resetting the SMC, and update to the latest versions of MacOS and your software.
