I'm at an absolute loss, this is a 6 month saga and I just don't know how to resolve it.

Prior to last year I was working with a Macbook Air 2016 with an external Apple 30" Cinema monitor.

Last year I got a Macbook Pro 2020, I bought a USB C hub and the adaptors for the monitor only it wouldn't work. It didn't even recognise that there was a monitor attached. I spent weeks buying different hubs and adaptors, starting it in safe mode, etc. etc. but gave up and bought what was to be the first of 3 new monitors. Each monitor I buy I have doubled checked that it will work with the Macbook but the text is so fuzzy that whilst it is initially readable it gives me a headache.

I cannot keep buying new monitors, and I cannot work without an external monitor (I'm currently using two iPads, my iPhone and my MacBook to work) before I send this one back I thought i would ask people who may know something I don't. I did download the better dummy app but I don't know how to make it work. This monitor is the LG 34" wide screen 4k.

Has anyone got any ideas or a recommendation for a 30" + monitor that will work with the M1 Macbook Pro 2020. I'm thinking of 4 19" monitor at this stage but I'm not sure how to make that work either to be honest!

Thanks in advance

If you want sharp text on macOS, the external monitor’s resolution needs to be at least 3840×2160 so you get the HiDPI modes with their vastly better text rendering. 3440×1440 or 3840×1600, for example, isn't "good" enough.

For 34" ultrawides, this limits you to the LG 34WK95U and MSI PS341WU. Both have a sufficiently high resolution (5120×2160).

However, since 2020 M1 Macs cannot run scaled HiDPI resolutions wider than 3008 pixels unless you use BetterDummy, these ultrawides limit you to a maximum real estate of 3008×1269 (3008×(2160/5120)). On a 16:9 "4K" monitor, the maximum is higher: 3008×1692 (3008×(2160/3840)).
