Hello everyone,

after a (subjectively) long wait, I finally received my 2020 MBP today. However, I realized that the hinge makes kind of a snapping sound at a certain angle while I'm closing it. It's hard to describe, but it sounds as if something would be jammed while closing the lid and then gets released a few degrees later. It happens every time I close the lid and the sound occurs at the same angle.

Does anyone else have this issue? All the other issues I could find regarding a "snapping sound" were of different sort.

I think I know what you are referring to. My experience is when you close the lid, depending on where you are holding the notch, the final closing click may vary to the left or right side. Is that what you mean? If so, I think it’s quite normal.

@elkrebso I've got a MacBook Pro 13" 2020 basic model a couple of days ago and I noticed the same thing. At a certain angle (about 30 degrees) there is a "tink" sound in the hinge. I even created a reddit post with the video:

Still not sure about the problem. Going to take the device to a service center on Monday, hopefully it will get replaced by another one..

What about your case? Did you get a replacement or do you still have the same device? Is the problem gone?

P.S. What I found out: The problem is not quite noticeable when the MacBook is cold, but as it heats a little to a normal working state, you can definitely hear the sound. It's the third day of usage and the problem is still here.

I took mine to an Apple 'premium reseller' and they said something like "Yeah... you dropped it, right?". When you looked closely, you could see that the case was bent. Then I contacted Apple and got a replacement.

Good luck with yours!
