Received the machine today via Amazon (Germany)

Just setting it up, it's awesome, even coming from an m1 air, noticing more performance already, reason to upgrade was capability of 2 external monitors

BUT, battery has 20 cycles already ?, coconut battery and istat menus are even reporting 97% battery health, though system report is reporting 100% health. I don't know what to make of it.

I don't think I am returning, but I'm looking forward to other owners data, so we can be upset together ?

First impression though is generally very positive.

do you have smiliar experiences with new apple MacBooks? Did you ask apple about it?

I’d suggest doing a few discharge and recharge cycles for the battery stats to update properly. The current coconut number may not be accurate.

20 cycles right from factory is unusual, most I’ve seen is my case which had 7.

I can return it to amazon for 30days or so,

I guess I keep it, the flaw is mainly imaginary I guess

thanks for the idea to calibrate @bluegt

thanks for your input, in my experience, the battery capacity of new MacBooks exceeds the spec, so is like 101% health, I guess not this time...
I think my issues is not an issue... only try to avoid faulty battery

Mine reports 2 cycles out the box and at 100%. I attribute that to QC but who knows? I can let it pass as long as it's not over 5.

Could be worse, you could have only 1.2% capacity left!

Mind you my battery has been on the go for a little over 40 years!

ooh yesterday I wrote that mine was shipped with 3 cycles and I was worried. 20 cycles is really a lot. Right now I am selling MBP2018 with 78 cycles after 2,5 year.

Watch if there is a crumb on the bottom, it is muffin from iJustine?

hm... gotta watch that video ;-)

so I got 10% refund from Amazon, I guess I can live with the slightly worn battery.

I'm used to apple battery degradation anyways, my air has 91% with 33loadcycles after less than one year, so my expectations are low for the future...

but its often connected to power, which isn't supposed to save battery health, so my bad maybe...

So everyone enjoy their machines, maybe I'm pleased finally, first time since my MacBook Pro 15 late 2013...

But it's only day one, let the gates begin... :D

It is not about battery but about that I do not want to pay for used device. But congrats on good discount :)

Battery modules have to be checked 2-3 times in the factory for manufacturing problems. When they pass they installed in the machine.

My 16" M1 MBP ordered BTO through Apple came with 0 cycles and at 100% battery capacity. 20 Cycles is definitely high, even for QC checks. Given that you ordered from Amazon, it could possibly be a returned, repacked, resealed unit. Did it arrive with the official plastic wrap around it with the white pull tab on the side of the box and tissue paper covering the display (check unboxing videos to compare)? Even if not, that does not mean anything is necessarily wrong with it. It may have just been returned by somewhat who used it for 30 days and then decided they wanted the 16" or something.

What I would do is take screenshots of the battery page and other system report pages for your records. Then look for other things that could possibly show usage (e.g., what version of Monterey did it arrive with?). Then inspect the unit for defects and other issues that we've all been discussing here since the release. Try to discern if there is an adverse reason for a hypothetical prior return. The fact is you could have an otherwise perfect MBP (great display, keyboard, pristine cosmetically, etc). If your are happy with it, enjoy...and getting 10% off is awesome! I would use it to pay for Apple Care.

My 16" pro came with 96% battery health but I didnt want to go through the cycle of exchanging Macs so I dealt with it, 2 months in and it is at 96.4%.

Mine changes from 97.5% to 99.4% and back, depending on the charge, time of day and will of the Unicorns. I stopped checking it. 7 Cycles, roughly 2 weeks old.

My MBP 16" M1 Pro from a retail Apple Store in the US came with 2 cycles and greater than 100% health.
