MacBook Pro 3,1 - SD Cards are Not Mounting

I just purchased and installed a SSD from OWC. Everything is great except that I can no longer mount SD Cards. When I put my original HDD back into my Mac, SD Cards show up. Both hard drives are running Mountain Lion.

The card reader shows up fine...

... but Disk Utility doesn't see any SD Cards...

... and System Profilier doesn't even see the Card Slot.

Transcend ExpressCard Reader
SanDisk Extreme SDXC 64GB
Patriot LX SDXC 64GB

Does my SSD overwork my (old) Mac and cancel out the ability to read SD Cards?
