macbook pro, 4,1 made aug 2008, is the gpu safe? also..

hello everyone, im new, i read this site a lot and just now i decided to register, i was concerned about my macbook pro which i bought in october 2008 at best buy,
the man date is aug 2008 and its v 4,1, is the gpu problems fixed? ( 8600m gt 256 mb)

also, do the apple store take trade ins towards new systems? for ex can i bring this one back pay a difference and get a unibody one?

hmm didnt know that, thats no good,
than what option do i have?
should i force mine to die, 3 times, so i get a new one from applecare before its expired?
i dont want to be stuck with a graphic card that could die any second, unless mine is safe...

Apple has done trade-in programs in the past for consumers and businesses.

They currently do a trade-in program for educational establishments - see bottom of link.
