macbook pro 4k monitor - gets REALLY hot, very worried

I bought a 2014 macbook pro for $2600 and I use it with a 4k monitor. It's sort of laggy which I can live with, but worse it gets INCREDIBLY hot. Infact, it runs 80-90c most of the time.

I am very worried that this will hurt my macbook over time. The problem is, only macbooks and mac pros support 4k at 60hz

It wont ruin it but running at 80-90c at idle doesn't leave much headroom for the processor hence why it's probably lagging so bad. Be sure the lid isn't closed while you are using your 4k display. maybe use a fan program to keep the fan at a higher speed.
